Cis Guanabara | Armazém 1The performance represents an Atlantic and counter-hegemonic crossing. Luciane Ramos-Silva’s body acts as a territory of difference and a critical annunciation. Between imaginaries, fiction and layers of stories, the work interrogates the logic that produces the “same” and the “other”, examining the nature of the relationships.
The show mobilizes affections, memories, violence and contradictions of the colonial legacy that defines who can and who cannot participate in the “human club”. For the artist, addressing the construction of “others” is not only discussing otherness but reflecting on how patterns of stereotypes and identity profiles are taken as ontological realities, ignoring the understanding that identities are flowing rivers and not fixed ideas.
Dancing in the fissures of Western thought, the work jeopardizes the dichotomy between body and thought, articulating and exposing, in a movement-thinking, what underlies such a separation. Lulled by a rhythm that pulsates like a jazz beat – as free as it is rehearsed – the dancer invites the present and the past to share an ironic laugh in the corner of her mouth – the one of those who know that the dance is not over yet. The danced gesture leads the memory as a recreation of what was experienced and offers the game, subtle and sagacious, as a way of transcendence.
