Following a recent phase of vertical work with groups, the Burkinabe choreographer and dancer Salia Sanou pursued the desire to explore the theme of encounter in another way. Notions of the place of “I” and “game,” gesture and space, cohabited his questions with circularity.

“Who are you, Salia Sanou? Who are you, the dancer, the uprooted?,” he heard echoed within himself – he has lived in France since the 1990s, where he founded the company Mouvements Perpétuels in 2011.

This voice made him rethink the dimension of acting and interpreting, allowing him a dialogue between subjects such as literature, dance and music. And so he arrived at the face-to-face structure, evoking the other in parallel confrontation, in complementarity, even alterity, or even, why not, opposition.

For this expansive journey, his pairs in three successive duos are the French-Senegalese choreographer Germaine Acogny, the Canadian writer Nancy Huston, and the musician David Babian, aka Babx.

The development of this experience, Sanou believes, is a synchronically scenic, verbal, and sonic alliance between the engagement of the body and its internal rhythms. Like a revolving stage mirroring the cycle of life and bypassing didacticism. A succession of knowledges and actions around what is distinct, such as listening to the power of personal searches and shared sincerity.
