PREMIERE

In its new performance, the SalaMUDA group addresses everyday issues experienced by black people. In focus is the search of these bodies for recognition and belonging, in contrast to a reality marked by the imposition of violence, the erasure of their narratives, and the denial of their identities.

Reframing Afrodiasporic heritage and ancestry through contemporary sonorities and movements, the show brings the power of urban dances and hip-hop culture allied to the musicality of jazz and African music. Preserving and deepening its investigations, marked by improvisation and constant dialogue between musicians and dancers, the group presents its first narrative performance.

In it, the surprise element of improvisation in instrumental music and hip-hop dance is mixed with a scenic direction proposed by Vine Hernani’s direction and Alexandre Natalio’s choreography, which brings up questions about identity, resistance and ancestry.
