In the show directed by Gal Martins, six performers expose the violence that their black and fat bodies have suffered throughout their existences and announce: they no longer accept to swallow this indigestible world. “We have to let go of that bitterness. Choking is inevitable. It is necessary to regurgitate to survive”, say the artists.
The choreographic dramaturgy reframes pain, transforming it into power from contact with a memory of the ancestral future. The memories of the earth plant a black matriarchy in the sacred, along with poetics of flaccidity and the birth of truth and desire. Thus, bodies previously confined by society to the stereotype of sick, without tonus and pulse, undo the knots that disturb them and dance, move and speak, accompanied by a soundtrack with references of contemporary black music.
The creation is dedicated to breaking stigmas, reaching new imaginaries and eliminating looks that pathologize the “fats that shape them”, proposing a revision of the pillars of fatphobia. The idea is to reflect on the standardization of beauty, making other women feel represented and encouraged to face their fears and anxieties.
