Father and son bring an intimate and ancestral practice of their lives to the public space: care. Sitting on a chair, the performer Gabriel Cândido has his hair washed by his father, the hairdresser Luiz Antônio Cândido, better known as Toninho.
Through this silent action, usually performed in a private place, they rub not only the notions of space but also the affective exchanges between father and son, in which the consciousness of masculinities and blackness are in permanent development.
All dimensions of the word care serve as mediation for the performance. In it, the bodies of these two black and cisgender men, of different generations and skin tones, dispute the imaginaries, proposing other forms of enchantment through their images.
The show was conceived by Gabriel in 2019 as part of a set of artistic actions of the Repertórios Sobre Vivências [Repertoires About Experiences project], in which the language of performance is used in intersection with the performing arts, the audiovisual and the visual arts to produce images about the relationships between ancestry, affection and memory of the black population in Brazil.
