The word wild is commonly associated with the opposite of what is civilized. Clarissa Sacchelli’s new work, however, questions the meanings of the term, deconstructing the civilizing narratives associated with it. The show investigates the creation of relationships that can only exist because everything is off the axis, refusing to fixate on it, and bets on a contact that doesn’t hold anything in place.

On stage, in a kind of trio ballroom dance, the performers move in mutual support: the inclination is choreographic practice, ethics of care and movement of disorientation and reorientation of the senses. Bringing dance and care together, the work investigates how bodies orient themselves in space and time when they are directed toward something or someone. By invoking what lies between and beyond the vertical-horizontal binary, the performance interrogates which orientations have been determined to bodies by colonial and patriarchal structures.

The idea is not to extinguish verticality, but to undo the point of view in which it and its relations with stability, linearity and autonomy make sense. The inclination is the possibility of disturbing how human bodies are organized, calling for a social dance and a time of being together.
